Carpet cleaning in Parsons Green

Parsons Green means the green and its District line station, and close by, the streets of the Peterborough Estate. The estate’s wide red-brick houses, the ones with a stone lion on the gable end, are among the biggest terraces in SW6. They come with long halls and full flights of stairs, which adds up to a lot of carpet.

A Lion House, room by room

Say you want a whole Lion House done. As a guide: hallway £22, one flight £41, landing £9, a knocked-through reception at £61 and two bedrooms at £36 each comes to £205. Each extra flight adds £41, and £9 for the landing at the top of it.

Many of these houses are now two flats, an upper one and a garden one. The garden flats often have a side return at the back, and plenty have a dug-out lower ground floor as well. That basement carpet is the slowest to dry in the house, so we do it first and ask you to keep the heating on.

Runners over painted boards

Halls round the green are often sisal or seagrass, with a wool runner up the stairs held down by rods over painted boards. The runner is cleaned in place with a small hand tool, keeping the edges drier than the middle. Sisal we vacuum and leave, since water leaves brown marks on it that nobody can undo. Front rooms tend to be oak boards with a rug on top, and the rug goes onto a sheet before it gets wet.

Parking by the green

The streets off New King’s Road have no drives and room for one car along the kerb, so we may have to park a few doors away, which adds a minute or two of walking at our end. Saturday is the day to think about. The bays near the estate are controlled at weekends, and a van without a booked session gets a ticket, so for a Saturday visit we ask you to book it a visitor session on RingGo.
